Lee Roy Selmon's tale combines football scholarship for his family and service in the local community. His first family is that Selmon is the eldest of nine kids raised in Eufala by Lucious Selmon. He was also one of three brothers who played for Oklahoma on the field of football. All three were All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey & Lee Roy started for one season in 1973. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's best lineman. Over the course of three seasons, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 with Roy as the starter. The team also took home 2 national titles. Third scholarship he was named an National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon received his bachelor's diploma in education. Lee Roy's fourth service consisted of ten hours a week in volunteer work during college. Following college, he moved to Tampa played nine years with the Buccaneers played all-pro three times and started his business career. In 1988, he was an Account Relation Officer at Tampa's First Florida Bank. He also worked with the following groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. So it's not surprising that in 1982 the Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy as one of America's 10 outstanding young males. Lee Roy was 6'2" tall and weighed 265lbs during his time playing college football. The year 1975 was the first time he led the squad. He was hired by the University of South Florida in 1993, as assistant director of sports. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988. He was also named to the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. The Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation presented the Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon, Sr. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor that presented the award.
